This weekend there’ll be a local time change. On Sunday, October 30th, at 3 am the clocks will be turned backward one hour to 2 am. It is known as the Fall Back or Winter Time and it’s when the Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends. That means the sunrise and the sunset will take place earlier, so mornings will have more light and the night will fall sooner in the afternoon.
Some say this time change means you can sleep one more hour, but apart from sleeping there’s a lot going on in this city! Here you are a list 4 things you can do in Barcelona this weekend, just to name a few:
1) Visit “Renoir Among Women” exhibition: only for 3€ you can visit an exhibition of approximately 60 pieces of artwork that the well-known Impressionist French painter, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, portrayed all throughout his artistic career. A wonderful exhibition!
2) Go to the Manga Festival: a widely known festival that takes you nearer the Japanese culture and traditions. Manga, anime, Japanese gastronomy, Japanese literature, Kimono workshops, exhibitions, tea, meditations... plus much more!
3) Find a castanyera –a traditional character that’s represented by an old lady toasting chestnuts– and buy some warm roasted chestnuts and sweet-onions! Although it’s getting more difficult to see, you’ll find some stalls with castanyeres who sell chestnuts and sweet-onions. That’s because our traditional Castanyada –a Catalan tradition that’s celebrated on the 31st of October and the 1st of November– is coming soon!
4) Celebrate Halloween in the city: although it’s not a Catalan or Spanish tradition, you can find many events that celebrate it. One of them is the “Terror Tunel” in Trinitat Vella today in at 8 pm. It’ll also be easy to find many bars and clubs will celebrate this fun and spooky festivity. Many have already named their parties and events “Halloweekend”!
5) Stroll about the streets of Barcelona, have a brunch or some bravas, go to a museum for free, go for a hike and enjoy the views, go to Gràcia, get lost in the Gothic Quarter, read a book in a cafe-library… there’s always something to do and always something that will surprise you in this city!
Having said all that… Be ready to switch your clocks and your watches, and make the most of your time in the city!
