On Monday we spent a wonderful night with our students in the beautiful and historical Palau de la Música Catalana! We attended the Eduard Iniesta & Ensemble concert and our students could experience first-hand what many locals enjoy at least once in Barcelona.
The Palau de la Música Catalana is listed as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO and when you see it from the outside and from the inside you truly understand why. This stunning concert hall (built between 1901 and 1905) is an important landmark of Barcelona, since it is the home of the Orfeó Català –a Catalan choir founded in 1981. It was designed by a very important Catalan architect, scholar and politician: Lluís Domènech i Montaner. His works are clear pieces of Modernism (Catalan Art Nouveau). In fact, one of his most important works, Hospital de Sant Pau, is the largest Modernist site and it's as breathtaking as the Palau de la Música Catalana.
The concert we attended on Monday was a perfect fit for the Palau. Eduard Iniesta (composer and musician) & Ensemble (the orchestra and guest musicians that accompanied him) played beautifully. A mix of different Mediterranean sounds and melodies that filled the place with magic. Eduard Iniesta is truly an icon of the Mediterranean sound that takes you to several Mediterranean countries at the same time. Here's a tiny taste of his music: Eduard Iniesta & Ensemble.
What a wonderful concert!
