It is no secret that any true Granadinian will be an expert in tapas. And Arcadia students truly excel in this area! Not only do they know the city of the Alhambra and the best places to find delicious tapas (free food served with any drink at any bar or restaurant in town), but they can now cook some!

At Arcadia Granada we like to challenge our bunch: instead of serving them food, we ask them to prepare it, and come up with new tapas recipes. We call this the “Arcadia Tapas Lab.”

In pairs, students need to choose from a set of ingredients (from cherry tomatoes or blueberries to tuna fish or jamón serrano) to create the best recipe. Their dish will have a Spanish name (as well as the team does), and it will be evaluated by the whole group in terms of presentation, originality, and taste (it should be edible, but that is not always the case). The grading (1-5) goes as follows: 5 = I want more! · 4 = Yeah! · 3 = It was OK · 2 = What is this? · 1 = Sorry, am I supposed to eat this?

The team that scores the highest will get an award.

I couldn’t begin to tell you the diverse array of tapas we were made to taste last night, but we did have a lot of fun! In the pictures you can see the Tapas Lab in progress, and this semester’s winners: “Las cabras” team and their winning tapas: “Pinchito rico” and “Pinchito pobre.”

Oh, it may be a bit too early, but we were also feeling "Haloweenish"!
