Today is Robert Louis Stevenson Day! He got two mentions on our local walking tours we did yesterday with our Stirling and Edinburgh students. We are encouraging all our students to stay local and to make the most of the opportunities that are close by!

Dr Cameron McKay took a tour on a scenic country walk from Bridge of Allan to Dunblane along the Darn path. The route goes past Ben Gunn’s Cave, which supposedly inspired Robert Louis Stevenson when writing Treasure Island, and also provides views of Ben Ledi, Stuc a'Chroin and Ben Vorlich. 

Dr Hamish Thompson did a philosophical walking tour from the Edinburgh Castle (esplanade) to the Calton Burial Ground to look at the History of Ideas in Scotland from the Medieval to the Enlightenment. On the way we passed Deacon Brodie’s Tavern named after a character who was a respectable cabinet maker by day and rascalous villain by night. Deacon Brodie is a possible inspiration  for Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of  Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
