Waiting for your study abroad program to start is kind of like waiting for a festival, isn’t it? You diligently bought your early bird ticket, you’ve been waiting patiently for any murmur of what may lay ahead, you’ve read and re-read the posts about people’s previous experiences and now it’s nearly here. The line-up (better known as co-cirrculars) are here and the exciting things that you’re going to get the chance to do are being announced. (Ok, maybe you’re not as excited as a festival but I am- you’ll get to know how over-enthusiastic I get when you meet me!)

Event registration opens Thursday, 11 May 2017 at 12 noon (EST) in your Arcadia Passport. And, don’t forget, if an event is full you can add yourself to the waitlist to be notified automatically if more space becomes available.

EVENT SIGN UP: You MUST sign up for events by May 29th 2017. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Without further ado, here is what we will be getting up to this summer;

Belfast and The Titanic Experience.

Nestled on the Northern Irish coast below Cave Hill and the Black Mountain, Belfast is a dynamic city Titanic, Belfastwhere the hospitality is legendary and the warmth of the people is genuine.  On this excursion you will be introduced to the political and social history of Belfast through a fascinating tour of the city led by local academics. The history of ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland is fascinating and this trip will give you an insight into the sometimes misrepresented past. Students will be brought to the Titanic quarter, where the tragically fated steam liner was built. A self-guided tour around the world renowned Titanic Experience will transport you to a different era. Students will have free time to explore the Queen’s University neighbourhood, the Botanic Gardens and the vibrant city on their own.  Hotel stay and private transportation from and the Arcadia Centre are included.  This weekend trip is not to be missed.

Galway and the Cliffs of Moher.

Setting off from Dublin we will make our way west to one of Ireland’s most culturally rich cities- Galway. When we arrive we will get a walking tour of the beautiful old city and hear about the history of such a captivating place. You will then be free to explore the smalls street, incredible food and world renowned traditional music scene.

The following day we will go to the Cliffs of Moher, aka ‘Cliffs of Insanity’, located on the west coast of Ireland.  The Cliffs of Moher are one of the most outstanding coastal features of Ireland and are located in County Clare on the Burren’s edge. Rising slowly from Doolin they ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) stretching south for nearly five miles (8km) to Hags head. The breath-taking views are not to be missed. Private transportation for the whole weekend and one night stay are included in this excursion.

Arcadia Culture Nights.

Ireland’s culinary and culture scenes have exploded in the last number of years, and Arcadia wants to make sure that our students make the most of its new found energy. Join us on our culture nights where we make a night at the theatre a special occasion. We will dine in one of Dublin’s famous restaurants and later relax with a show.

Minding Frankie

‘Minding Frankie’ is a novel by famous Irish novelist Maeve Binchy that has been adapted for stage. The heart wrenching story of young Frankie-who is left motherless and with a drunken father-will be sure to have you on the verge of tears as well as laughter. Step inside Ireland’s most famous theatre, The Gaiety, to experience this gem and get a glimpse into what modern Ireland really has to offer.

Once

On our second culture night, we will choose a different, but also as mouth wateringly good, restaurant to feast in before setting off to The Olympia theatre to watch the Irish play 'Once.' This Oscar-winning film needs little introduction as it became a famous movie that was watched world-wide. The love story between the two main characters is beautiful and bittersweet and the music will leave you wanting more. Make sure to get to at least one of these evenings to see how the Irish do theatre in style.

Remember: You MUST sign up for events by May 29th 2017
