Following in the footsteps of my colleagues in Scotland and London, I wanted to also share feedback from an Alumni. The student recorded these videos shortly after arriving home from Ireland (following the official start of COVID-19 restrictions in March 2020).

I reached out to Liz Murray from Pomona College who studied at Trinity College in Dublin for the Spring 2020 Semester to hear how she got on. Liz had an Irish passport as her family are from Gorey in Co. Wexford. She had obviously visited before but as we all know; study abroad is different to simply visiting a place!  When I met with her in person, I could sense her genuine Irishness and the fact that she had been here before, spending time in local rural areas.

In this recording she talks about why she chooses Ireland as her study abroad destination. Like all students, her time here wasn’t without its challenges. She reflects on some of these and on the things that helped her overcome these difficult times. I loved hearing Liz talk about her memorable moment of the simple friendliness of the Irish. I could completely picture the scene of a pub, a football match and an electric atmosphere!

It seems that this student was willing to allow herself to reflect on all of the things she learned about herself, one being on her resilience in adapting to a new academic university system.

We were delighted to be able to support Liz throughout the process and for her kind contribution in offering advice to students coming to Ireland.
