Last weekend, a group of us set out on an unforgettable EALU trip, embracing the true meaning of the Irish word 'EALU,' which translates to escape. Our journey took us through the picturesque landscapes of Ireland, winding through small villages and revealing the breathtaking beauty of the Cliffs of Moher.
Our EALU weekend was not just a trip; it was a carefully planned escapade over five years in the running. Students traveled from Cork, Galway, Maynooth, Dublin, Limerick, and Belfast, making the gathering a truly diverse and enriching experience. We celebrated two birthdays during our time together, adding an extra layer of joy to the weekend.
Our adventure commenced with a traditional Irish Ceili on the first night, featuring an exceptional band performance and insightful guidance on step dancing. The evening radiated with a vibrant celebration of talent and shared experiences.
Navigating charming villages, Lahinch revealed itself as a hidden gem with crashing waves providing a soothing backdrop to our exploration. Our journey led us to the historic Bunratty Castle in County Clare, constructed in 1425 by the MacNamara family. The medieval charm and rich history left us in awe, especially as we learned about its famed medieval banquets. Today, the castle stands as a well-preserved medieval fortress and a popular tourist attraction, complemented by the adjacent Bunratty Folk Park, a living history museum recreating Irish village life from the 19th century.
Saturday morning brought us to the highlight of our EALU adventure—the iconic Cliffs of Moher. The breathtaking views, accompanied by the crisp sea breeze, created a moment etched forever in our hearts. As we journeyed back through scenic villages, the magic of Ireland left an indelible mark on our souls.
Infusing a fun and competitive element, an engaging quiz awaited us, covering history, sports, and intriguing facts about Ireland. The winning team, comprised of Ellen Montgomery, Alex Fitzgerald, Erin Quinn, Hana Dolan, Gabby Johnson, Abigail Munson, Barbara Norton, Olivia Krupa, Lexie Dyke from Trinity College Dublin, and Sofia Viscarello, Carly Griffaffi, Ellie Manrotta, Keara Keelty from University College Dublin, received personalized mugs as prizes—a small token of our unforgettable weekend.
The strong sense of togetherness fostered over the weekend was accentuated by our stay at Ireland's first carbon-neutral hotel, a source of collective pride. As we bid farewell to this unforgettable journey, the memories of open mic laughs, rhythmic step dancing, and the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher will forever resonate within us.
