Originally in commemoration of the Stonewall Inn riots against persecution of the LGBTQIA+ community in New York City in 1969, celebrating pride has spread across the globe and the month of June is now dedicate to the protection of love in many countries. The first pride parade in Dublin began in 1983, and in 2015 Same-Sex marriage was passed by popular vote.

Now that we have a safe return of events for the first time in 2 years, the Dublin Pride Festival will launch this week from June 22nd – June 25th: There is both a Pride March and a Pride Parade that join to become one large event, and a Pride Festival taking place in Merrion Square.

The Pride March

“At its heart it is protest, but it is also a display of solidarity. If you plan to take part as an individual or with your friends or family, there is no need to register, it is a free event open to everyone who supports the ideals of Pride. You can rock up on the day, watch from the side or join in and march, or a bit of both. Remember, Pride is both Protest and Celebration, you’re welcome to dress up or bring your own banners and make as much noise as you like, however they must be respectful and inclusive of our LGBTQ+ community and not create a safety hazard.”

Dublin Pride Parade

“The Pride Parade is a celebration of LGBTQ+ people and culture, the highly visible spectacle of the parade plays an important role in promoting diversity, inclusion and belonging within society. It’s an opportunity to showcase the many LGBTQ+ organisations working within our community along with ally groups who take a visible stand in support of LGBTQ+ people. Since the first Dublin Pride Parade in 1983, it has grown to become one of the most popular and loved events within the city and continues to change the hearts and minds of many people.”

Pride Village

“A full day festival in Merrion Square on Saturday June 25th. This is a free event suitable for all ages and is supported by Dublin City Council and our festival sponsors. The festival includes 2 stages with entertainment all day, community zones, family area, quiet zone, food vendors and our new sustainability zone.”
