Anyone who has run a marathon, or trained for one, can attest that completing all 26.2 miles is a true test of mental and physical endurance. It also takes a great deal of fitness and training to avoid injury and build your strength to make it to the finishing post!
This Sunday, 24th April, is the 35th London Marathon, which is the city's biggest running event of the year with 38,000 people taking part! Roads around the City of London will be shut down to allow runners to pass iconic sights such as the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, Tower of London, London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, with the finish line down the Mall.
Thousands of spectators line the streets to cheer on professional runners part of the World Marathon Majors competition along with the thousands of amateur runners, who typically run in fancy dress (or costumes) for charity causes. In fact, former professional football player, Lloyd Scott, completed the marathon in 2002 wearing a deep sea diving suit that weighed a total of 130 lbs!
So needless to say, for all those still around London on Sunday, this is not a race to miss!
