The subsided Oxford excursion is coming up so we have put together a few tips for you to make the most of your day in the medieval city.

Oxford is world famous for the university though it has much more to offer. The city is crammed full of history, spectacular architecture and plenty of culture to keep you busy for much more than a day. To help you decide what to with your spare time we've listed a few things to do below. Though, as we have programmes running at the University of Oxford we thought it would be best if we shared the recommendations of past and present students who have lived and breathed the city.

Things to do

The River Thames

The river runs through Oxford and is a great way to see the city. You can walk along the bank, following the Thames Path and taking in the sights. You could also get on the water and hire a punt. A punt is a long, thin boat that is pushed along by someone with a long poll. If you don't have good balance and don't fancy doing it yourself, you can join a tour.

Ashmolean Museum

The museum at the heart of the city is free to enter and is well worth browsing. The museum is packed full of historic artefacts and works by world renowned artists including the Andy Warhol exhibition which has had great reviews. There is a fee of £10 to get into this exhibition though it looks to be well worth it.

Harry Potter

Scenes in several Harry Potter movies were filmed in Oxford. You will understand why when you wander through the magical colleges. If you would like to view some of the film locations check out this great map.

Eating

After your walking tour you are likely to be hungry. The Oxford students have got that covered as well.

Vaults and Garden

A beautiful cafe located in a converted church that serves great food and coffee. Settle in among the locals and get lunch with a brilliant view of the Bodleian Library.

The Varsity Club

If you would like to treat yourself to some afternoon tea head to The Varsity Club. It has seating on the rooftop which gives you panoramic views of Oxford.

Najar’s Place

A tiny stall located off St Giles that sells great sandwiches and pastries. An ideal place to stop for a quick lunch and it won’t break the bank either.
