Liverpool Weekend

Themes: Tradition & Innovation, Tribes, Life & Death

Liverpool gained its status as a city in 1880, having existed as a borough before that point. Its urbanisation and expansion was due to its status as a port city, largely due to its participation in the Atlantic slave trade. It was also the port of registry for a number of famous ships, including the RMS Titanic. Liverpool has an incredibly diverse population and is home to both the oldest Black African community, and the oldest Chinese community in Europe. Oh yes, we nearly forgot, a band called The Beatles came from here.

Football Match - Fulham vs Reading

Themes: Pop Culture, Sensory, Tribes

No, this is not a soccer match. It is a football match because you kick the ball...with your feet.
Football is easily the most popular sport in the UK and it is embedded in our culture. Going to watch a game on a Saturday is as much a ritualistic obligation to many as it is something fun to do. We wish to give you the opportunity to experience this cultural event first hand in south west London. Fulham FC and Reading FC are both football clubs with a rich history, so expect a pulsating encounter of the highest quality. Keep that USMNT fervour going! The football chants will no doubt be high quality as well.

Theatre - Nell Gwynn at The Globe Theatre

Themes: Underground, Pop Culture, Tribes

“Nell Gwynn charts the rise of an unlikely heroine, from her roots in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain’s most celebrated actress, and her hard-won place in the heart of the king. But at a time when women are second-class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the court? And at what cost?

Having delighted audiences with Blue Stockings in 2013, writer Jessica Swale returns to the Globe with this vibrant take on life in the theatre in the 17th century.”

This play is performed at the Globe Theatre, a reconstruction of Shakespeare’s outdoor theatre originally built in 1599.
