The countdown has begun for Fall 2016 and we couldn’t be more excited to announce our events planned for you this upcoming semester!

We’ve worked hard to select some of the best unique experiences that we believe will help you make the most of your time in the UK.

So with your arrival in London just over a month away, read on below for what we have in store. Event registration opens Wednesday August 10 at Noon (EST) in your Arcadia Passport. And don’t forget, if an event is full, add yourself to the waitlist and you'll be notified automatically if more space becomes available. The deadline to sign up for events is Sunday, August 21!

Wales Adventure Weekend

Themes: Sensory, Total Immersion, Tribes

Ditch the city for a weekend to experience the beautiful landscapes and coastal surroundings of the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales. During this Adventure Weekend, you will have the chance to try activities such as sea kayaking, surfing and coasteering led by experienced and trusted guides. You’ll also stay in a fully catered eco-lodge, where after a busy day outdoors you can retreat to delicious home cooked meals, campfires and cosy nights in.

Cambridge Day Trip

THEMES: Life & Death, Tradition & Innovation, Tribes

Cambridge is most famous for its prestigious university, which was founded in 1209. For this reason, you will notice that students make up a sizeable chunk of its population and university colleges dominate the historic city centre.

During our visit to Kings College, you will have ample time to appreciate the gorgeous architecture and the walking tour will fill you in on the history of the city. The River Cam is also a great attraction, and you might even get to try your hand at punting!

Football Match - Fulham vs. Norwich City

Themes: Sensory, Tribes

Football (not soccer) is easily the most popular sport in the UK and is embedded in our culture. Going to watch a game on a Saturday is as much a ritualistic obligation to many as it is something fun to do. We wish to give you the opportunity to experience this cultural event first-hand in south west London. Fulham FC and Norwich City FC are both football clubs with a rich history, so expect to encounter a charged atmosphere full of energetic fans and countless football chants!

Edinburgh Weekend

Themes: Tradition & Innovation, Tribes

Experience a different part of the UK with our two night excursion to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Not only was Edinburgh one of the historical centres of the Enlightenment, it has also been at the forefront of many of the world’s medical developments. Today, the city is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site and with one visit to this beautiful city you will understand why it attracts countless scores of visitors every year.

During your stay, you will have a guided walking tour along with a visit to the historic Edinburgh Castle, which has been residence to many members of Royalty, including Mary Queen of Scots. We will be staying in a hostel with breakfast provided, and the trip will include train travel to and from Edinburgh.

Krakow Weekend

Themes: Life & Death, Tribes

Lying in Southern Poland, the city of Krakow dates back to the 7th century and retains much of its medieval history, as well as its Jewish heritage. On this faculty-led trip we explore this heritage and some of the horrors of World War II by navigating the once destroyed, but now bohemian, Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz), visiting Oskar Schindler’s factory and taking a privately guided tour of the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

While the trip has a distinct focus on the experiences of Krakow’s Jewish population, it also provides a unique opportunity to reflect on issues facing the world today and to independently explore this vibrant city that often lies outside the usual study abroad travel path.

Rugby Match - England vs. Fiji

Themes: Sensory, Tribes

Sporting events make up a significant part of British culture, and this semester we are providing the opportunity for you to attend a rugby match at the prestigious Twickenham Stadium, often referred to as the home of Rugby Union. Join in with the other spectators by cheering on England as they play Fiji in this international match!

Theatre - No Man's Land at Wyndhams Theatre

Themes: Pop Culture, The Underground

Whether it be a light-hearted comedy, a musical, or a serious piece dealing with the darkness of the human heart, theatre provides an opportunity to witness a reflection of British life and to examine it in relation to your own attitudes, beliefs and experiences. This Fall, have the chance to see Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings, X-Men) and Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, X-Men) on stage in the acclaimed production of No Man’s Land.

Ice Skating at Somerset House

Themes: Pop Culture, Sensory

Get into the Christmas spirit by ice skating at Somerset House! This beautiful building sits on the River Thames and is a stunning backdrop for twirling the time away. Once the skates are off, be sure to indulge in some festive mince pies and a glass of mulled wine!

Stonehenge & Bath Day Trip

Stonehenge – Stonehenge, a World Heritage Site, is composed of the substantial remnants of the last in a sequence of such monuments erected between circa 3000BC and 1600BC. There has always been intense debate over what purpose Stonehenge served and during your visit you will get the chance to form your own opinion. A huge effort and great organisation was needed to carry the stones tens, and sometimes hundreds, of miles by land and water and then to shape and raise them. Stonehenge’s orientation in relation to the rising and setting sun has always been one of its most remarkable features.

Bath – Two thousand years ago, with most of the world at their feet, the Romans recognised the unique qualities of Bath and settled here. They chose well. Set in a sheltered valley, surrounded by seven wooded hills and nourished by Britain’s only natural hot springs, it is a natural haven. An exquisite Georgian city grew from Bath’s ancient roots epitomised by Jane Austen. The Royal Crescent, The Circus, Pump Room and Pulteney Bridge are among the finest architectural treasures in the world, which explains its designation as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

York Day Trip

We’ll be travelling by train to one of the best preserved medieval cities in England, York is a jewel of the north. Small, walkable and beautiful. The Christmas market will be in full flow with artisan goods to purchase. A viking stronghold for many years when it was known as ‘Jorvik’. Sites to see are the Shambles area of boutique shops, medieval cathedral-like Minster, Betty’s Tea Rooms or take a tranquil walk along the river.

Our day will include a guided walking tour from the local official tour guides taking you back through over 1000 years of history and along the still preserved medieval wall.
