As part of the University of Kentucky’s Digital Media in London programme, the Arcadia London Internship Programme’s Joe Dwyer and Tom Crosby arranged for Sarah Geegan and Kody Kiser’s class to visit and tour Bloomberg’s brand new £1 billion European headquarters in the heart of London’s financial district. Bloomberg is a financial software, data and media company that originated in New York City.
The 2-hour visit included a tour of the 1.1 million sq. ft. site, regarded as the world’s most sustainable office building under the BREEAM sustainability assessment method, followed by a presentation about the Bloomberg terminal as well as business news reporting in the digital realm.
The class also had the opportunity to observe a live Bloomberg News broadcast from behind the scenes, as well as to speak with various members of staff while on the tour.
It was a great visit, offering an overview of one of the world’s leading international news and technology organisations, and we’re grateful to Carol Nahra - one of Arcadia’s adjunct faculty - for helping us to arrange the visit.
Readers here are also encouraged to visit the London Mithraeum, located on the ground level of the new Bloomberg building (sadly we didn’t have time!). Originally discovered in 1954, this 3rd century Roman temple has been relocated and reconstructed here on its original site beneath the Bloomberg headquarters. The visit is free, but you’re encouraged to book in advance. More information can be found here.
In addition to the Bloomberg visit, Joe and Tom have arranged a series of speakers for the class from amongst our internship placement providers in PR, Advertising and Entrepreneurship, offering a breadth of industry expertise and professional insight in the realm of digital media.
