Whether you’re in Cambridge for an afternoon, a day, or longer, Cambridge has some of the best hidden gems across the city. Depending on your preferences, you can find various spots to stop at for some delicious food!

Breakfast/Cafe

  • If you want classically British food, or whatever breakfast food you are in the mood for, The Copper Kettle is the quintessential spot. You can go there all day, but my favorite is their breakfast. From a full traditional English breakfast that makes you salivate to pastries of your dreams, it has something for everyone to enjoy.
  • No matter who you are: a Cambridge undergrad, a high-powered businessman, or a regular tourist, stopping at Bould Brothers Coffee is a perfect start to your morning or an afternoon pickup. Their various selections of caffeinated beverages will please everyone, and their choices of to-go eats cannot disappoint.

Lunch/Dinner

  • If you want to try a classic Sunday roast, then The Cambridge Chop House is for you! No matter if you are a vegetarian or vegan, they can still provide you with this British dish! Or, if you go on another day, their mains provide the perfect savory options from elite cuts of steak to hand-crafted burgers and more!
  • Little Petra delivers a taste of Jordan for anyone, even if you’ve tried Jordanian food before. Their extensive menu will allow even the pickiest of eaters to find something they will enjoy. If you want my opinion, their sambusa is delightful for smaller bites, or if you're looking for something bigger, their shawarma options will satisfy.
  • Pizza cannot go wrong if you are looking for a sit-down meal for everyone. Pizza Pilgrims offers this eccentric atmosphere with both classic and unique pizzas. If looking for classics, go for their buffalo margherita, or something a bit more wild, either the carbonara or the mushroom and truffle. If still hungry, order one of their delectable desserts, their tiramisu, or my favorite Nutella pizza ring, stuffed with ricotta cheese.

Dessert

  • Jack’s Gelato is a staple in Cambridge, always with a line out the door, but if you can wait a few minutes, you won’t be disappointed! Their menu changes daily with unique flavors you can’t get anywhere else. If you want a typical taste, they always have vanilla and chocolate in rotation, but I always suggest going for one of the more adventurous ones like House Cake or Marscapone (you can get samples to try)!
  • If you’ve been to the UK, gelato is everywhere, so it’s often what people get as a post-dinner treat, or to cool off in the heat. Amorino is Cambridge's best Italian gelato shop and only serves regular flavors. But do not think that will disappoint! They offer gelato, macarons, and other delicious desserts for when you get a sugar craving. Plus, all their gelatos look like a gelato rose -- the perfect Instagram pic!

Classic Cambridge

  • This spot could fall into multiple categories, but Fitzbillies is a spot everyone knows in Cambridge. I’m specifically speaking about the Fitzbillies on Trumpington St, across from Pembroke College (as there are various spots across Cambridge). It takes over three storefronts, and has three separate sectors: their coffeehouse and cafe, the tearoom, and the bakery. My personal favorite is the Chelsea bun, and their shortbread cookies. If you want an option that feels like you are immersed in Cambridge, Fitzbillies is that spot.

While Cambridge may not be known as a great food spot, it certainly is up there (at least for me) as a place that caters to many different tastes. Even trying one of these spots will make you feel part of the city’s culture.
