Dr. Matarán Ruiz received a BsC and Ph.D in Environmental Science (University of Granada, 1995-1999 and 2002-2005). MsC Waste Management (University of Central Lancashire, 2004). Since 2003, he has served as a research fellow and lecturer in Regional Planning and Environment at the University of Granada. From 2008, he has been Chair of the professorship Jose Saramago-Seminar of Environment and Life Quality of the University of Granada. Professor in the Doctorate Program Urbanism, Regional Planning and Environment. Environmental specialist in the local administration and previously for the Environmental Agency of the Province of Cordoba, Argentina. He held a post as a researching visitor in the University of Manchester, England (2004), Central Lancashire, England (2004), as well as in Florence, Italy (2008-2009), and Buenos Aires, Argentina (2009). Dr. Matarán Ruiz has been a participant in more than 15 national and international researching projects. Her serves as Editor of Ambientalia, and member of the editorial board of the Open Environmental Journal and Observatorio Medioambiental. He has more than 40 publications to his credit within the research interests centerd on water and spatial planning, planning and local sustainability, landscape and planning, and more recently, on social participation. He also holds a Cambridge Certificate on Advanced English and a third course degree on French Language.
