Only a few more days left in America before I jet off to Barcelona for the next 3 months! I can’t believe I’m about to leave behind the world of Netflix and my mom’s cooking in exchange for tapas and whatever form of video streaming there may be in Spain.
While I am beyond excited to live outside the US for a time, I’ve also been having some anxiety, which has led to many dreams where everyone is speaking to me in a language I don’t understand. Even though I’m going to Spain, I’m pretty far from being fluent in Spanish, much less Catalan. One of my goals this semester is to learn a new language, and while I hope to improve my Spanish, I’ll be ok with mixing Catalan in there as well. In terms of the anxiety, I’m feeling ready to go somewhere new. My summer has been about 3 weeks longer than my friends and though its relaxing, its time to move on to sweater weather and essay writing.
I’m hoping my luggage won’t be overweight and that nothing (including myself) will get lost. I’m hoping I won’t miss my family and dogs too much and that I won’t get any food poisoning or get pick pocketed. I’m also hoping I have a great homestay and experience with Arcadia University! However, I know I’ll be fine as soon as I’m in the Catalan capital learning my way around. I can’t wait to see what the semester has in store!
