On Chesil Beach
Adapted by Ian McEwan from his bestselling novel, the movie is set in the summer of 1962 and focuses on a young couple of drastically different backgrounds. Following the pair through their idyllic courtship, the film explores sex and the social pressure that can accompany physical intimacy.
A French movie which is about the history of some managers of a factory who decide to suddenly close up the factory, after promising 1100 employees that they would protect their jobs. The main character Laurent takes the lead in a fight against this decision.
An American thriller which tells the story of four women from Chicago who have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
Since the Roman Empire, Testaccio neighborhood have always played a fundamental role in marine trade, where numbers of ships sailed full of wine, wheat and olive oil. This last product will have a starring role in this particular festival, hosted in the amazing Testaccio Market on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November, where visitors are not just able to taste and buy various types of olive oil but discover its whole world: its history through the centuries, its production process and the solid connection that olive oil has always had with Italian society and culture.
Feeling an urgent need to do wild shopping? Friday 23th of November is Black Friday here in Italy too, even if it is a new habit not so rooted in our tradition as it is in the US. Anyway, if you have some savings to spend I surely recommend you to swing by the main roman malls like Euroma2, RomaEst, Porta di Roma and others. Obviously there are some shops in the city center that will join the Black Friday too, so if you are in the mood of take a walk in the center alleys feel free to do it. Hoping it will not rain!
Talking about outdoor events, next Sunday 25th of November there will be the 10 km and 5 km run of Rome, organized by the famous Italian radio DEEJAY. There will be three different run you can attend that morning: the competitive 10 km, the non-competitive 10 km and the non-competitive 5 km. Their routes are all around the center of the city: starting from Circus Maximus you will pass next the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, the Colosseum, then down to Pyramid and Testaccio and at last back to the starting point. All runs will start around 9:30 and the appointment for the runners is at least 30 minutes before the starting hour. Until February 24th, it is hosted in the fascinating Palazzo Medici Riccardi a photography expo of a brilliant but mysterious street-photo artist named Bansky. Born in Bristol, this man in known for his photos and their evocative power. Many of the critics consider him the most famous artist since Andy Warhol. Therefore, if you haven’t already visited it, you should go in order to discover something new about this mysterious artist.
From 19th October to 30th November the famous online site TheFork has organized a sort of Food Festival, which is actually a period in which you can make use of their discounts and promotions for famous restaurants around the city of Florence. Download the app, check if the restaurant you want to go is on the list of participants, and then at the end of your meal show to the cashier the discount code you have on your smartphone.
