We can’t wait to see you all in Melbourne this February 2020! As Melbourne is known as Australia’s Cultural Capital, so we have some really fantastic co-curricular activities planned for your upcoming Spring semester. Look below for what’s on offer and make sure not to miss out!
The Welcome Meal is a great opportunity to meet your Melbourne Arcadia staff member properly, socialise with your fellow study-abroad students, and start your semester off with a nice (free!) meal. More than just a meal though, we select a really nice and fun restaurant and spend the night getting to know you. This gives you a chance to ask any question you might have about university life, Melbourne recommendations, or more.
Arcadia offers coffee catch-up dates with your local coordinator, so you can explore the best on-campus coffee houses. Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world for coffee, so be sure to attend and enjoy a free cuppa on us! Take these opportunities to chat about any issues you might have or ask your staff member for advice about the city of Melbourne.
Join us on our three-day Grampians Excursion in March, where will explore the world-famous Victorian region, known for its wildlife (kangaroos, emus, koalas and more!) and for its wildflowers and sandstone mountains. This excursion gives you the opportunity to engage in a range of activities, such as hiking, abseiling and rock-climbing, as well as receive a valuable education of the geographic and indigenous history of the area. Two Arcadia staff members will take you on this trip to Halls Gap in the Grampians National Park where we will stay at an award winning Eco YHA. It’s a great opportunity to keep up with your other Arcadia study-abroad students and explore the Australian bush. This is a weekend not to be missed and best of all it’s free.
Before the mid-semester break, and before the Melbourne weather starts to cool down, head down to the beach and help keep your temporary-home’s beaches free from rubbish. Arcadia is proud to host this event, where each student is encouraged to pick up three (or more!) pieces of rubbish from Australia beaches. The event includes sunshine and sand, as well as a free ice-cream for your troubles.
This excursion is chance to keep getting to know your local Arcadia coordinator, but also the chance to experience aspects of Melbourne that the locals love. The day trip gives you the chance to direct the content of the event – vote with your fellow study-abroad students for which Melbourne-experience you’d like to have! Day trips ideas include a trip to the Mornington Peninsula, biking along the local trails, a relaxing day at a Hot Springs, visiting the fairy penguins at St Kilda Pier, a visit to Melbourne’s world-famous zoo, and street art tours of the central city area.
Celebrate and remember the good times you’ve had throughout your semester abroad with a (FREE!) Closing Dinner. Take the opportunity to share stories from the semester, and debate who had the best travel stories or the funniest Australian experiences
