We are so excited to have you join us in Spring 2020! To help make your experience memorable while in New South Wales, we have put together the below schedule of events to make your time in Australia one to remember! Grab these opportunities and make sure not to miss out!
Food and some wonderful conversations are what we offer at your welcome meal! You will get to try out the local cuisine by coming together with your fellow Arcadia friends and Arcadia coordinator for a (free) meal to start the semester and welcome you to Australia.
Wondering where the best spot on campus is to get great coffee? Need a break to just chat and hang out? Meet Arcadia staff for a catch up on campus, and we will provide coffee advice as well as a surprise Australian treat here and there.
Broken Bay provides the perfect place to get away from the city and campus life. About 1.5 hours north of Sydney, accessed by boat and surrounded by bushland, it allows students to recharge, reflect and immerse themselves in the environmental and Indigenous history of the Hawkesbury River area.
It’s a weekend about slowing down where you will feel worlds away with the isolated headland, beach, river and bush setting. And we can't forget those breathtaking views. There will be time to relax by the water (or even swim in it), time to hike the untouched bushland and locate traditional Aboriginal rock art, time to be creative and paint a boomerang, time to learn how to throw a boomerang, time to challenge your mates to a round of beach volleyball, and after the amazing home cooked dinners, there’s still time to spend the evenings around the beach campfire getting to know each other and learning to make damper - a very (tasty) Australian tradition, and later on to chill out watching classic Aussie movies on the big screen.
Have we got you interested yet? It is one not to be missed!
Wollongong occupies a narrow strip of coastline of beaches and rockpools, with forests and rocky cliffs that encircle the city, offering some of the most spectacular views. During this full day excursion students will experience the many facets that make up Wollongong, or as the locals affectionately call it, the ‘Gong’. This trip is even an Instagrammer’s dream with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
We take you to places that are hard to access without personal transport. From watching paragliders circle above us at Bald Hill lookout, taking in the views from the second most photographed bridge in NSW, Sea Cliff Bridge, then trying to find glow worms in abandoned train tunnels. We will walk around the beautiful lighthouse and watch the natural wonder and largest blowhole in the world, the Kiama Blowhole, explode with water. We then explore the tranquility of Nan Tien Temple (the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere) and drive through the Steel Works and its port. Make sure you pack your cameras for the day as the sights are sure to impress. This excursion includes bus transport, entry fees, lunch and snacks. Signup via Passport to secure your place as numbers are limited.
While exploring an interesting and stunning Sydney Harbour island and beach we can also contribute to the simple initiative of ‘Take 3 For The Sea’ and keep our beautiful waterways clean and free from rubbish... oh and enjoy some delicious ice-cream along the way. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a great impact!
Celebrate your semester with a FREE group meal. We’ll come together with Arcadia students in Sydney to share stories from the semester, decide who ate the most Tim Tams, acquired the best Aussie accent, and who has the best travel stories. It will be a wonderful time to celebrate our time together over another fantastic meal. There will be gifts and prizes so make sure you come along!
