Tuition and Orientation $14,995 The tuition portion of all program fees includes tuition for most arts and social science academic courses, pre-program advisory services, on-site orientation, complete support services throughout the program, health and accident insurance, post-program follow-up and transcript. Italian Immersion tuition is $12,775.
Room $2,975 The housing portion of our program fee assumes self-catered, standard accommodations. Students in catered housing or enhanced accommodations could be subject to supplemental charges. Please refer to the program's Accommodation page for more specific details.
Total Program Fee $17,970 Enrollment selections incurring additional fees will be billed several weeks after programs begin.

Estimate of Additional Expenses

Fee Type Amount Notes
Books $250 The average cost of books and supplies for a typical student for the semester. Certain courses include study related travel fees of up to $400. These will be billed directly to you by the Umbra Institute after arrival in Perugia. See additional fees below.
Meals $1,135 This estimate is based on the cost of food to be prepared using the residence facilities provided.
Personal $1,085 This budget item is meant to cover general expenses of daily life. Our estimated cost typically includes toiletries, snacks, cell phones, limited entertainment activities, and other miscellaneous expenses. This includes an estimated $300 for out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Student Visa $300 For students studying in Italy for longer than 90 days, the Italian National Visa (D Visa) processing fee is approximately $56 USD; the fee is updated by consulates every three months to adjust for inflation and exchange rate. Students should also budget an additional $50 USD in estimated shipping. Students should also anticipate paying an additional $195 USD for the Permesso di Soggiorno upon arrival in Italy. Visa costs are subject to change.
Local Travel $260 Estimated travel costs from the student residence to the instruction site throughout the course of the program.
Program Travel $1,100 The program fee does not include the cost of traveling to and from the program location. The estimated cost of airfare is based on the average cost of travel from the US to the program. Cost will vary depending on time of purchase, point of origin and dates of travel.
Total Estimate of Additional Expenses $4,130 These estimates intend to assist students in budgeting for their experience abroad. Actual amounts will vary depending on individual spending habits. An exchange rate of USD 1.13 to EUR 1.00 was used in determining the above estimates.

Supplemental Housing Fee $600 - $900 A single room with shared bath option is available for an additional $600. A single room with private bath option is available for an additional $900.
Special Course Fee $300 - $2,000 Certain courses include study related travel fees per semester. These will be billed directly to you by the Umbra Institute after arrival in Perugia.
Academic Pathways Tuition $0 - $0 Students enrolled in the following Academic Pathways will be subject to an additional fee: Scholars Program ($1,850), Food Studies ($1,330)
Virtual Global Internship $500 Students enrolled in the Virtual Global Internship add-on option will be subject to a per-semester fee.
