University of Cape Town

  • UCT plans to begin online teaching on Tuesday, 28 April, following an orientation to the online learning space from Monday, 20 April.

The schedule for Term 2 (teaching weeks 6 – 12) will be:

    • Learning Online Orientation for students: 20-25 April
    • Teaching begins online: Tuesday, 28 April
    • Last day to remove course from academic transcript: Friday, 8 May
    • Last day of teaching: Friday, 26 June
  • Classes will resume through UCT’s online course platform, Vula. A list of courses available for fully online learning will be released before teaching resumes online. Where a course cannot be completed fully online, we will liaise directly with affected students about the options available to them.

  • The majority of online courses will rely on continuous in-course assessment and most courses will be graded pass/fail.  End-of-semester invigilated exams have thus been suspended.  Where invigilated exams must be completed (e.g. for courses required for professional body registration), these will be held in mid-December with arrangements for exchange/ SSA students to take these remotely.

If your university requires you to have a percentage grade outcome, please write to SSA@uuct.ac.za so we can make arrangements for your assignments to be graded separately.

  • The University has a dedicated webpage for Coronavirus updates.
