University of Cape Town

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a countrywide lockdown, commencing at midnight, Thursday, 26 March, until 16 April 2020. UCT requires every student – including those with prior permission to stay – to return home as soon as possible. It is now a legal imperative that all residences close.

  • UCT plans to begin online teaching on Monday 27 April, following an orientation to the online learning space from 20 April.

The schedule for Term 2 (teaching weeks 6 – 12) will be:

    • Learning Online Orientation for students: 20-24 April
    • Teaching begins online: Monday, 27 April
    • Last day of teaching: Friday 12 June
  • Classes will resume through UCT’s online course platform, Vula. A list of courses available for online learning will be released before teaching resumes online.

If you are not able to complete a course online, UCT will remove this course from your record and you will remain eligible to return for a future semester in the Semester Study Abroad (SSA) programme with a full tuition fee waiver.

  • The end-of-semester exam session has been cancelled.  Instead, assessment will be continuous throughout the term with online courses graded on a pass/fail basis.

If your university requires you to have a percentage grade outcome, please write to SSA@uuct.ac.za so we can make arrangements for your assignments to be graded separately.
