Driving into the town of Stellenbosch, heading for the Helderberg mountain pass, one is immediately transfixed by the vineyards and lush landscape. It is easy to understand why the first European settlers in South Africa decided to establish their first colony in Stellenbosch.
Stellenbosch is located in Cape Town's Winelands and is just 45 minutes from the center of Cape Town. With its pristine Cape Dutch architecture and cobbled streets, Stellenbosch retains all of the charm and atmosphere but also has a contemporary vibe, evident in the street cafes spilling onto those sidewalks, the art galleries, and the placards for concerts and dance performances posted on the lamp posts. This contemporary vibe is the result of a very big participant in the Stellenbosch community – the students of the University of Stellenbosch. This is a college town to rival any college town across the globe!
