Legislative experience in a dynamic government at a pivotal time

What better place to experience the cut and thrust of legislative operations than the Scottish Parliament - at a pivotal time in its history as the debate continues over Scotland's national identity and political future within Great Britain and Europe. Offered during the semester only, this exciting program with the prestigious University of Edinburgh brings you a unique opportunity to help make history by working with members of the Scottish Parliament, which re-opened in 1999 after its suspension in 1707.

This is an unparalleled practical and academic experience for students of government, law, politics, history, economics or sociology. You’ll delve into the culture, history and politics of Scotland and the UK through engaging academic courses and the opportunity to complete significant research under the direction of a member of the Scottish Parliament. As the program only offers a few spots, it is highly selective and therefore only open to students who, at the point of application, are juniors or above and have taken at least four courses in relevant subject areas (i.e. Politics, International Relations, Government, Social/Public Policy, Criminal Justice), having achieved grades B or above.

One aspect of British culture that I have experienced is the deep interest in national politics and domestic issues, and to a smaller extent, in the study of other cultures. ”
