Umbra Institute Courses

The Umbra Institute General Studies program in Perugia requires a minimum of one Italian language course based on your proficiency. In addition to Italian language, General Studies students take three to four electives for three to four credits each along per term. Within General studies, students are able to choose from liberal arts electives taught in English in a variety of disciplines, including food studies, honors independent research and community engagement placements.

  • Make sure your credits transfer back for credit with your home school – this is your responsibility.
  • Please be flexible about courses – we can’t guarantee placement in specific courses.
  • Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Choosing Your Courses

Please see the Umbra Institute to determine the course availability for your period of study.

The majority of courses will require you to use a textbook or a “reader,” which is a packet of information compiled by the professor. Text books and readers will be available for purchase at the Umbra Institute or at local copy shops and book stores. You will receive more information regarding locations and costs on arrival.

Your course may require field trips and other activities that have additional fees associated not included in your program fee. Please be sure to consult the Umbra Institute course pages to learn if your courses have associated lab fees.
