Fascinating study abroad outside and inside the classroom

This program will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and experience the full mosaic of Greek culture.  Become an active participant in the Greek community and learn about Greek culture through experience. The wonders of this magnetic ancient and modern country will be yours to explore.

The cornerstone course: The Greek Key brings you into life as a Greek - new perspectives, cultural insight, ancient and modern traditions, local and global issues and of course, survival Greek language. You’ll enjoy mixing academic learning with experiential learning in the streets and neighborhoods of Athens. You are free to choose your four additional courses from our varied  liberal arts offerings such as art history, modern political economy, journalism, literature and history. Students interested in Classics often pursue the archaeology, philosophy, and Ancient Greek course options.

We also offer many local volunteering and service learning opportunities if you'd like to get practically involved with the local community.

Without Arcadia and the staff there, the program would not be nearly as significant in changing my life, I know this for sure. ”

  • Spend two days engaging in practical applications of course material through study outside of Athens for each class.

  • All courses, with the exception of the Greek language courses, are taught in English.

  • You may also choose to complete an independent study project in place of one elective. This may be in a STEM field such as forensic anthropology and soil science, or in the humanities or social sciences. Note: GPA for consideration if taking a STEM project elective is 2.5.

  • Arcadia in Greece has many courses which include study of topical connections with other Southern European countries, such as: Europe's Crises: Southern Trajectories and EU Contested Futures, which involves collaborations and visits with students in Rome and Athens and possibly other centers.

  • If you would like to take part in an internship in Greece, please see our Athens Internship Program.
