University of Havana Courses

You’ll take a semester load of 4-5 courses for a total of 16 credits for this program.

  • Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
  • Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.

Spanish Language

Students will complete a language assessment at the beginning of their time in Havana, which will help determine their placement in a 4-credit Spanish language course.

Spanish language courses for foreign students are taught by the Modern Languages Department.

Electives

Students will be directly enrolled in two to four courses of their choice at the University of Havana. Courses are worth 2, 3 or 4-credits.

Credit equivalencies are as follows:

  • 32 horas = 2 U.S. credits
  • 48 horas = 3 U.S. credits
  • 64 horas = 4 U.S. credits

Course Restrictions

Students will not be able to enroll in courses in the Law and Medicine departments. Courses taught at levels 4 and 5 assume significant prior background in the subject. Students should only select courses at this level if they are majoring in the subject.

List courses or general topic areas you are interested in exploring in Cuba on your online course form. If no course code is available, use UHAV. All course registration and finalization will occur on-site in Cuba.
