In Wollongong all students are housed in University owned Accommodation. The accommodation options include a mixture of residential colleges and student apartments. The residences are located around the city and free shuttle services provide transportation to and from campus. Living in a residential college, you will be part of a fabulously unique and vibrant community where residents dine together, take part in many organized social events and compete against other halls in sporting contests and cultural challenges such as debating.
Weerona College provides an excellent opportunity to live in a close-knit college. Within fifteen minutes walking distance to campus, you will live in shared rooms. You will take part in a rich array of social events offered by the college which include regular barbecues, a masquerade ball, volunteering opportunities and weekly yoga and boxing classes. You can also join one of the Weerona College sporting teams which competes against other halls, this provides a wonderful opportunity to learn a new Australian game such a netball or cricket. As part of your meal plan you will eat with the other residents in the dining hall. Outside of set meal times, you can prepare snacks in kitchenettes located throughout the residence. Residents can also take advantage of the free shuttle bus which provides service to campus and into town.
One of fifteen affiliated International Houses worldwide, International House Wollongong offers accommodation in shared bedrooms with communal bathroom facilities. In addition to a cafeteria, games room, television room and study rooms, International House also offers soundproof music practice rooms, all within a 10-15 minute walk to campus. International House has a very full social calendar with a range of activities on offer many with a focus on international and diverse cultures. As part of your meal plan, you will eat with the other residents in the dining hall or enjoy al fresco dining in the courtyard. Small kitchenettes are also available if you wish to prepare food outside of dining hours. Residents can also take advantage of the free shuttle bus to campus and the North Wollongong train station is right at your doorstep for easy access to Sydney.
Located just north of the city centre and close to the beach, Campus East is the largest of all the student residences at Wollongong University, housing over 600 students. Campus East is located about 15-20 minutes away from the University, however residents can make use the free Gong shuttle to get to the campus.
Campus East is an older style complex, the rooms vary in size and shape. Most of the students at Campus East live in apartments made up of 3-5 single bedrooms with a shared bathroom.
Campus East is unique in that it offers students a flexi meal plan, which means that residents load their own money onto a meal card which they then swipe at each meal. This means that students are only paying for meals that they eat. Payments for the flexi meal plan are made directly to Campus East; Arcadia does not bill students for this meal option. Many students choose to have breakfast in their rooms and then use the cafeteria for dinner, coffees etc. Please note that there are no real kitchen facilities at Campus East, so students living at Campus East should be aware that they will need to use the Campus East Dining hall and Meal Plan. Cooking for yourself at Campus East is extremely limited.
University of Wollongong offers a broad range of student apartments, suitable if you're seeking a more independent style of accommodation where you can prepare your own meals.
Recently renovated and expanded, Kooloobong Village is set amid a bushland setting on the edge of campus. This self-catered option is ideal if you prefer a more independent style of living. You will live in a 4-5 person apartment with your own bedroom and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. In addition to preparing your own meals, you will have use of laundry facilties and be able to take advantage of common areas on site including barbecue facilities, outdoor recreation areas and a communal games room and lounge. Located on the edge of campus, Kooloobong Village is only a five minute stroll to class.
With a strong connection to the positive psychology model Kooloobong Village residents are encouraged to join in a rich array of social activities, which include weekly yoga and TED talks and a host of other sporting and social events. Kooloobong Village prides itself on its community and creating an atmosphere welcoming to students from all over the world and from all walks of life.
Conveniently located in the heart of the city, Marketview offers hotel-style accommodation in modern, air conditioned, single bedrooms. Each room has a private bathroom and fully equipped kitchens are available on each floor where you will be able to prepare your own meals. In addition to the cafe on site; supermarkets, shops and restaurants are within a short walk of the complex. Residents can also take advantage of the GK Shuttle which provides a free bus service to campus.
Marketview offers the students a range of social and volunteering opportunities. Please be aware that Marketview is one of the smaller residence with only 144 students, so availability can be limited.
