Melissa has worked in international education since 2001, first as a Study Abroad Advisor in North Carolina. She joined The College of Global Studies in 2007 as the Assistant Director, Southeast, and currently is Associate Director of Institutional Relations.
Melissa’s passion for the women's experience abroad and health and safety abroad started as an undergraduate when she developed a Women’s Safety and Health Orientation for study abroad students. Over the years, she has presented various topics at state, regional, and national conferences and webinars for NAFSA, the Forum on Education Abroad, and Diversity Abroad, focusing most recently on sexual health and the prevention of sexual violence abroad. Melissa is the author of both editions of the NAFSA publication Sexual Health Abroad (2009 and 2016). She sits on the Advisory Board of the Rainbow SIG of NAFSA.
Melissa holds a B.A. in Spanish and Creative Writing at Western Michigan University and an M.A. in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She studied abroad as an undergraduate in Barcelona, Spain, through the University of Kansas.
